Batu Angus Nature Park Area, Bitung

Home Articles Batu Angus Nature Park Area, Bitung

Batu Angus, a natural tourist destination located in Kasawari Village, Aertembaga Subdistrict, Bitung City, North Sulawesi, presents an extraordinary view and is different from most other natural tourist attractions.

Located near Mount Dua Saudara, Batu Angus Bitung was formed from lava flows that froze after a volcanic eruption that occurred thousands of years ago.

The cooling lava flows created jet-black rock formations that are very unique and contrast with the calm blue sea in the background.

This dramatic sight makes Batu Angus Bitung seem like another world hidden among the natural treasures of North Sulawesi.

Batu Angus Nature Park (TWA) in Bitung, North Sulawesi, has a long history and exceptional biodiversity.

This area was first designated during the Dutch colonial period, precisely in 1919, based on the decision of the Governor General of the Dutch East Indies.

In the document Staatsblad Van Nederlands-Indië 1919 No. 90, Batu Angus was designated as a Natural Monument or Natuurmonumenten, which refers to a protected forest area.

After Indonesia’s independence, the status of this area was maintained. Several times, Decrees (SK) on the management of this area were issued, including in 1978, 1981, 2014, and most recently in 2016.
In Decree 748 of 2016, the Batu Angus Bitung area finally became part of the Tangkoko Conservation Forest Management Unit (KPHK), which manages an area of 649 hectares.

The Batu Angus Bitung area itself has two main spots that attract tourists, including:

  1. Lava Rock Field
In the first spot, visitors will be presented with a view of a vast stone field, the result of volcanic activity that forms a distinctive lava formation.
This view provides an opportunity for visitors to enjoy a natural panorama that combines rock fields, forests, bush fields, and beaches. This combination creates an exotic and unique atmosphere.
  2. Beach and Cliffs
The second spot is a beach surrounded by high cliffs that block the ocean waves, creating calm waters all year round.
Here, visitors can enjoy dramatic cliff views, as well as small islands scattered around the coast.

Not only that, but the underwater beauty is equally breathtaking. Various types of marine plants, corals, and ornamental fish can easily be found in this location, making it an ideal place for snorkeling activities.

Overall, Batu Angus Bitung is not just a natural tourist destination, but also a site rich in history, science and nature conservation.

The impressive natural beauty, combined with the importance of this area for flora and fauna conservation, makes TWA Batu Angus Bitung one of the must-visit places for those looking to experience the natural wonders of North Sulawesi.
